On August 9, the
Hendricks County Community Foundation
(HCCF) notified Hendricks County Trail Development Association
that it was awarding a $2,000 grant from the Deedee Daniel Opportunity Fund for the Vandalia Trail Surface
Repair & Construction project. Vandalia Trail organizers had applied for this grant to help fund trail surface
and drainage upgrades for the hike/bike trail and the equestrian trail. This HCCF grant, along with other
foundation grants and private donations will be used to buy supplies and services to fill, grade, and gravel
a 150-300 yard length of the hike/bike trail just west of the CR 675 W crossing and two 100 foot sections
of the equestrian trail along the Amo mile. Due to the original terrain, these areas have experienced notable
drainage problems during the wet seasons.
Construction work has now started on these areas and is planned to be completed this Fall.
Many thanks to the HCCF for providing the last grant needed to launch
these long planned upgrades. A list of all of the grant recipients in this round can be seen at this link.
