The Hendricks County Parks maintenance crew will be working to upgrade the equestrian trail surface
in key areas within 1 mile west of Amo to Crittenden Creek during the weeks of July 25 & August 1.
As a result, the equestrian trail between Amo and Crittenden Creek will be closed July 29 - August 5.
There will be no alternate trail routes around this area for equestrians during the temporary closure.
The Friends of the Vandalia Trail are very grateful to the Parks crew for this major effort to grade
and build up areas of this natural horseback and hiking trail that have experienced erosion,
standing water, and/or mud during and
soon after strong rainy periods. The work will also include replacement of the side-by-side
culvert pipes under this trail near Amo with a single larger pipe. This will greatly
improve the flow capacity and eliminate the need for the manual labor to unblock the culvert from time to time.
As a key part of this project, volunteers are needed to help on August 2 & 3 to rake level the crushed stone
that the Parks crew will add that week along hundreds of yards of the trail in low areas.
See the Events page on this web site for more details if you are available to help.
